Buera, Kaboski Present CFSP-funded Research at BREAD 2011
On September 23-24, the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD), along with the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), held a conference on current topics concerning development economics at the Paris School of Economics. The conference was organized by CFSP member Abhijit Banerjee, along with other lead researchers in the field.
This year’s conference showcased a variety of topics, including a paper and presentation by CFSP members Francisco Buera and Joseph Kaboski. Their paper, entitled “The Macroeconomics of Microfinance,” coauthored with Yongseok Shin (Washington University, St. Louis; Federal Reserve Bank, St. Louis), examines the macroeconomic effects of microfinance or credit programs, targeted toward small-scale entrepreneurial activities of the poor, who may otherwise lack access to financing. This research provides a quantitative assessment of a topic usually explored with microevaluations. The research presented in this paper was made possible by CFSP funding.
